Port Orford is a very nice community offering beautiful scenery without the crowds. Don't think you will miss out on shopping however, Port Orford offers several art galleries owned and operated by local working artists. When you are done shopping, the family will likely enjoy a visit to Cape Blanco Lighthouse, just four miles north of the city. From here you'll get a spectacular view of the Oregon coast, and reach back into a little of Oregon's history. For a little more Port Orford history, make sure and stop by the visitors center to learn more about the architectural history of many of Port Orford's buildings. A number of the houses date back to the 1800's, when the settlers first established Port Orford as a town in 1859. If you would like a look inside one of these houses, visit the Hughes House at Cape Blanco State Park during the summer months. Make sure to also pay a visit to Heads State Park and Humbug Mountain State Park when in town. Port Orford is a wonderful place to spend a family vacation!
