Pelican Bay Lighthouse
(July 4, 1999)
|
For
a number of years, "Cleft of the Rock" was the only
official private lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. That
all changed when Bill Cady decided to have a lighthouse added
onto his current home in 1990. Then in 1997, Mr. Cady
moved the home to its current location, perched on the corner
of a 100 foot cliff above the Pacific Ocean. This
octagonal tower is 141 feet above the ocean and can be seen
from as far as eleven miles away.
After receiving approval from the federal government, this
house was lit for the first time at 11:03 pm on July 4th,
1999. The lamp is a fixed acrylic Fresnel lens. It
turns on at dusk and off at dawn.
If you would like to see this lighthouse, simply visit
Brookings Harbor. No more instructions are needed, and
you shouldn't have any problem finding it! We will also
remind you that this is a private lighthouse, and the privacy
of its owner should be respected.
